Jogging in Hollywood Fl
November 3rd, 2009
Categories:Community Information, Hollywood, Just For Fun
I just discovered a neat website for joggers. It’s called Map My Run , and it offers jogging routes throughout the US. I googled it for routes in Hollywood FL, especially ones that offered water views, and it gave me different lengths of runs, complete with maps and description. Go to MapMyRun.com
Let us know which routes you liked best. Personally, I love to run the Hollywood Broadwalk up to Dania and back, but if you prefer a loop, check out the website, and let me know what you think.

Josh’s Organic Farmers’ Market on Hollywood Beach
September 4th, 2009
Categories:Community Information, Hollywood
One of my favorite places to shop and/or hang out on Hollywood Beach is Josh’s. Apparently I am not alone, or even one of a small community group. Our ‘group’ is about to get larger, as Josh’s is being featured in the traditional media, namely CBS 4 News in the “Good for You” segment at 6pm on Friday, September 4th.
According to the Hollywood CRA, the 3-5 minute segment will “highlight the extraordinary story of Hollywood Beach’s popular weekly farmer’s market and owner Josh Steinhauser’s commitment to healthy living and community service”
As if we didn’t already know! But it’s nice to see Josh get the accolades he deserves.

Josh’s Organic Garden: Hollywood Broadwalk
June 18th, 2009
Categories:Hollywood, Moving to South Florida
Last Sunday I was taking one of my regular jogs along the Hollywood Broadwalk, (Hollywood Florida) and stopped off at Josh’s Organic Garden for a delicious freshly squeezed smoothie. Even before the market had officially opened, there were already over a dozen people waiting around to be among the first to pick out their organic fruits and veggies. On my return run some 40 minutes later, there were maybe 100 shoppers checking out the open air stalls, with Josh’s voice booming out as he rushed around to ensure all questions were answered, everyone was being served. and the friendly spirited staff were keeping up with all the activity.
I knew this was peak selling time, so I didn’t want to take up too much of Josh’s time. I asked him to point out what he thought might be the extra special produce of the day. He didn’t point it out: he insisted on taking me to the individual stalls so I could taste the items he was particularly proud of. He picked up some cherry tomatoes, the golden orange kind, the deeper the orange color the better, and they were the sweetest I had ever tasted; then he directed me to the freshest greenest best smelling basil and dill, combined with the tomatoes, they left a taste sensation I won’t soon forget. Then, I just had to have a taste of the plums, and , when he peeled back the husk of a corn and gave me a section to try, I was frankly taken aback. You mean I don’t have to cook it first? I bit into it, and it was pretty good. (Still prefer my corn on the Cobb BBQ style).
Josh’s Organic Garden is unique even as farmers’ markets go:
- 1.Right on the Beach, just steps from the Atlantic Ocean
- 2. Josh: he picks the produce the night before. It doesn’t come any fresher

- 3. Josh: what he doesn’t sell gets distributed to homeless shelters.
If you’ve been to Josh’s, you know what I’m talking about. Please feel free to share your great Josh’s Organic Garden experience.

Obama, Buffet and Me
June 5th, 2009
Categories:Buying Real Estate, Front Page, In The News
So you’re wondering what do Warren Buffet, Barack Obama, and Ellen Windheim have in common? I recently received an email from a friend commenting on the success of many of my Columbia University alumni, including Buffet and Obama. Before contacting Warren and Barack with some fantastic buying opportunities in the South Florida real estate market, I thought I should verify their educational backgrounds. I had thought that Obama was a Harvard graduate, but it turns out my friend was right: Obama did go to Columbia for undergraduate political science studies.
And, in what must be one of Harvard’s worst admission decisions, Warren Buffet was actually rejected by Harvard, and attended Columbia Graduate School. As for me, I also went to Columbia University School of Business for my Masters in Business Administration.
Tenuous connections, you might think, for networking with these superstars: the richest man in the universe (still?)and the President of the United States? Maybe, but I’m still looking forward to the next Columbia Alumni mixer.
